As the aging process continues over time, skin elasticity is usually lost gradually. Gravity forces the skin to excessively pull down over the upper eyelids, sometimes to an extent of hanging over the eyelashes and getting in the way of vision. The skin collecting on the lower eyelid makes it to develop wrinkles and bulge. The fat supposed to cushion eyeballs against the skull will also tend to bulge out as the eyelid muscles weaken and that does not make things better. Dr Bloch is an Eyelid Lift Chicago plastic surgeon with years of experience in this specialty and can be found through his website www.bodybybloch.com to help. You can find him if you are a Chicago resident and need blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery procedure performed. Forehead lift procedure may also be necessary make eyelid lift more effective.

What is cosmetic eyelid surgery?

Also known as blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery improves the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. It gives a rejuvenated appearance to the surrounding area of your eyes, making you look more rested and alert.

Treatable conditions:

Upper eyelid surgery can remove excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the upper eyelids.

Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid, sometimes impairing vision, can be treated by eyelid lift surgery.

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty can remove excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid.

Bags under the eyes can be corrected by blepharoplasty.

Lower eyelid surgery can correct droopiness of the lower eyelids, showing white below the iris (colored portion of the eye).

How To Prepare For Eyelid Lift Chicago

It is important to be well prepared before having your Eyelid Lift Chicago cosmetic surgical procedure performed. Make arrangements for someone to help you drive home after the surgery and even stay with you at least for that night. You should also plan ahead knowing you will need to stay home and not work for several days as you heal. You should also expect to experience dry eyes that will make you uncomfortable and it is therefore important to have at home things such as ice cubes, ice pack or freezer bags, gauze pads, eye drops, clean washcloths or towels and painkillers. Use of certain drugs including aspirin that may increase the risk of bleeding should be avoided.

How Is Eyelid Surgery Performed?

An eyelift usually takes about two hours if both upper and lower eyelids are done together. Your doctor will most likely use local anesthesia (a painkiller injected around the eye) with oral sedation.

If you are having the procedure done at a hospital or surgical center, you will most likely receive IV sedation.

If you’re having all four eyelids done, the surgeon will probably work on the upper lids first. The surgeon will usually cut following the natural lines of your eyelids. Through these cuts, your surgeon will separate the skin from the underlying tissue and remove the excess fat, skin, and muscle. Next, the surgeon will close those cuts with very small stitches. The stitches in the upper lids will stay for three to six days. The lower lids may or may not require stitches, depending on the technique used.

Recovery And Possible Complications

After eyelid lift surgical procedure, you will remain with stitches for about a week. Swelling and occasional bruising can be expected but within 1 or 2 weeks your eyelids should be looking normal. Although very rare, complications can result from blepharoplasty. These might include bleeding, an infection, dry eyes, abnormal coloring of eyelids, abnormal folding of eyelid skin, possible vision loss and other rare unwanted outcomes.
